High River Sauces Thunder Juice Hot Sauce

September 03, 2019

High River Sauces make some of the best products on the market today. All of their sauces are so unique, with each also being fruit-based. I love the way in which the sauce makers emphasize fresh, natural ingredients! Come by one of our store locations and ask about them! We also have plenty of open bottles for our customers to try! Check out my reviews of Cheeba Gold, Rogue, and Foo Foo Mama Choo if you want to learn more about the company and the other sauces they offer!

Right off the bat I want to tell you all that this one is REALLY HOT. The guy’s nuclear exploding head on the label is a rather accurate description of how I first reacted when I tried it. I was curious about how spicy it really was, so I tried a full tablespoon of it. I was in a delirium of hiccupping and sweating. I definitely would not recommend anyone ingest the amount of sauce I did that time, unless you really want to FEEL THE HEAT! To me, even for those with higher spice tolerance levels, this sauce is best enjoyed in modest quantities, and of course with food. If you’re curious about the sweet-earthy taste of the Chocolate Bhutlah and how fruit could compliment its flavour profile, do give Thunder Juice a try!

This one has a lot of ingredients. I will say that, in this case, I appreciate the level of craftsmanship that has gone into creating it. The many ingredients ensure that a pleasing, yet complex flavour is present, while also maintaining a pepper-forward taste. The flavour profile is sweet, fruity, tangy, and lightly earthy.

Apple cider vinegar as well as lemon juice act as preservatives with a light sourness to complement the fruits and peppers. Chocolate Bhutlah, Carolina Reaper, and Fatalii pepper mash, as well as Scorpion pepper powder make for an intense heat and deep, fruity, earthy, and citrusy flavour. The Chocolate Bhutlah is actually a cross between a Bhut Jolokia (Ghost pepper) and a Chocolate Douglah. It’s not a very common pepper to find in hot sauces, so it makes this product that much more special! Peaches, blueberries, and raspberries add a sweet fruity quality, with brown sugar boosting up the sweetness just a tad. Ginger root and garlic add a light zing to complete the peppers while the Habanero-infused tequila, which is mildly noticeable, adds a light oaky and sweet quality.

In terms of heat, I would give this one a very solid 8 out of 10. I feel that in some cases, depending on how you try it, it can feel more like a 9 out of 10. At the same time when comparing it to other level 9’s that I’ve enjoyed, it’s a slight notch under in terms of heat. Regardless, this sauce is not for amateurs. It will seriously kick the butt of any tough guy boasting about how they can handle anything. I recommend Thunder Juice to those who have at least tried, and enjoyed, hot sauces which are at the ghost pepper level or higher. If you’re just getting into hot sauce and really want to go for a very hot one to enjoy one drop at a time, then this would still be a great choice!

Add some thunder to your spice mixes or marinades for chicken, pork chops, tenderloin, tofu, steak, shrimp, lamb, and salmon. I’ve had it in my sandwiches, salads, stews, and ramen! Try a couple of drops in your stews, chilis, rice and beans, salsas, and any of your favourite Caribbean, African, or Mexican dishes! It’s the kind of sauce you wouldn’t want to add more than a teaspoon or so of in a big bowl of whatever you’re preparing!

Come by one of our store locations and give High River Sauces Thunder Juice Hot Sauce a try!

As always, Keep it spicy!

Born to Hula Habanero Ancho Hot Sauce

September 16, 2019

The flavour profile of Habanero Ancho is tangy, sweet, lightly smoky, and relatively mild. It’s very reminiscent of most Mexican-style hot sauces due to its ingredients and heat level. So, if you like those, you’re almost guaranteed to enjoy this one.

Adoboloco Kolohe Kid Hot Sauce

September 10, 2019

Kolohe actually means ‘naughty’ and this sauce is indeed! This is because it hits you first with savoury flavour which distracts you from the slow-building heat of the ghost peppers. The flavour profile of Kolohe Kid is tangy, earthy, and a bit briny. There are very few ingredients in this one.

Great Sauce

This sauce is excellent on wraps or in sandwiches. Love the layered taste and the heat!!

I put that stuff on everything! (To borrow from a commercial lol)

I had this when I used to live in Louisiana. It was just coming out on the market and our family became addicted to it. 30 years later we are still using it. This is the only place in Canada that we have found that sells it. So grateful to find it here. It seriously goes on almost everything. Whenever I introduce it to friends. They in turn love it. You just can't go wrong with it in my opinion. Please keep stocking this 'must have' item. Thank you!

Best tasting hot sauce

This is the best tasting hot sauce I've ever had. Not as hot as advertised, but there is a mild kick to it.

Amazing sauce

By far the best tasting product I’ve tried from them. Much better than the Collectors Edition.
