Hellfire Zombie Snot Hot Sauce

January 23, 2020

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday season. I’m sure you’re ready for plenty more weekly Heated Discussions!

Hellfire needs no formal introduction at this point in the game. They’ve made a big name for themselves over the years at chile festivals and hot sauce expos all-around, along with being on Hot Ones for multiple seasons. I love this brand so much that I’ve in fact reviewed several their products on this blog before! Check out my other Hellfire reviews if you want to learn more about the brand and their amazing hot sauce lineup.

I know Zombie Snot may not be the most appetizing name for a sauce, but believe me, not only is it one of the freshest tasting sauces on the market today, but it’s actually an elevated, hotter take on the classic salsa verde which many of us love, made with green superhot chiles! The fresh taste is what really drives this product. As the description on the bottle says, it’s “not just another boring green sauce!” It’s far from boring, I’ll give it that!

The flavour profile is citrusy, crisp, savoury, and lightly tart. There’s a diverse multi-pepper blend in this one. It’s made up of Jalapenos, Serranos, Hot Cherry peppers, Cayenne peppers, Ghosts, 7-Pots, Moruga Scorpions, and finally Carolina Reapers. That’s such an amazing combination of milder, medium-heat, and superhot chiles. They all bring together fruity and earthy notes which are all well-complemented by the other fresh ingredients. Water balances out the consistency and acidity while the tomatillos, a crucial ingredient in any verde salsa, bring tart, fruity, and slightly herbal flavours into the mix. Granny smith apples add some sweetness and sourness with the distilled vinegar preserving the sauce and adding that distinct tang we come to expect from a hot sauce such as this one. I really like the addition of the roasted garlic. Its rich, zingy flavour seamlessly blends in with everything else in the bottle. Scallions add a mild sweetness, also making for a slightly chunkier consistency. Fresh cilantro brings out that classic lemony taste that many of us love (and some of us unfortunately really do not) with the sea salt helping to ensure that this sauce is the furthest thing from bland! It also goes without saying that lime juice truly completes this product. Would it really be a verde sauce without it? I think not given that its tangy, citrusy flavour brings everything together. The cumin is somewhat detectable upon tasting. It adds an extra layer of Mexican spice, making me really want to load it up on all my tacos, enchiladas, chilaquiles, and more.

In terms of heat, I’d give this one a solid 6 out of 10. It’s by far the hottest verde hot sauce I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy. No need to worry too much though, as it’s not quite as crazy-hot as most of the other sauces in Hellfire’s lineup. I’d recommend it to anyone except those who can barely handle Jalapeno-level heat. Then again, would you really be reading this blog if Jalapenos are too hot for you? Either way, if you can at least handle some of the milder, classic habanero-based sauces you shouldn’t have too much of a problem enjoying this one.

Zombie Snot goes great on all kinds of dishes! It sounds kind of funny when I read that out loud... Of course, the initial feeling is, given the style of sauce, that it would be great with Mexican or Tex-Mex food, and that it is! You can also enjoy it with creamy pasta, fried chicken, salads, rice and beans, eggs, pizza, soups, chilis, and all kinds of sandwiches. It works well as part of a marinade for fish, chicken, beef, or pork too! It’s also delicious when mixed with mayo, sour cream, or cream cheese for a zesty, refreshing dip for your veggies, fries, or mozzarella sticks!

Come by one of our store locations and give Hellfire Zombie Snot Hot Sauce a try!

   As always, Keep it spicy!

Bee Sting Mango Passion Hot Sauce

February 19, 2020

When you think of a bee sting, you probably think of excruciating pain and the need for medical attention. Well get that thought out of your mind for this sauce as it will definitely not sting you much at all! It will, however, provide you with some fresh tropical flavours.

CaJohns Hydra Hot Sauce

February 11, 2020

CaJohns Hydra Hot Sauce is definitely a force to be reckoned with! Made with 7-Pot Primo chilies, it’s got a fresh heat that you’d expect to get from this brand. Hydra is in fact a very pepper-forward sauce, meaning that much of the flavour comes from the main pepper itself.

Dawson Original Hot Sauce

Smells good. Tastes good. Hot as hell. But manageable.

The toe was damn hot!!!

The toe of satan is friggin so hot. It's one thing to eat something hot and swallow it. The toe is 9 million scolville but you are sucking on it. Need I say more!!! Picture was for fun but that was about 20 mins after!!

Perfect if you like strong vinegar-y sauces.

So my partner loves this sauce, but she loves kimchi and all things vinegar/acid-y. So I'm giving this 4 stars based on her opinion.

The normal Hellfire Detroit is one of my favorite sauces of all time for reference; however Bourbon Habanero Ghost is too tart/acidy for my taste, its also considerably hotter (which is welcome for some but a difference to note), I'd say 40% hotter than normal hellfire.

Good flavour with lingering heat

This is a pretty darn hot sauce, but the underlying flavour is still noticeable. This is a good one to have in your collection for those liking a strong kick now and then.

So good!

Bought this set as a gift for my brother who collects hot sauce and he liked it a lot. The Chicago one works well with guacamole! While the Adobo loco packs a punch. 10/10 would purchase and try other stuff again! Also the packaging is great and it arrived in perfect condition.
