Heartbreaking Dawns Reapercussion 7 Pod Primo Hot Sauce is EXTREME and should be handled with caution. It’s one of those sauces that’s made with top-quality ingredients in which the flavour of the peppers takes all the spotlight. The taste of the 7 Pot Primo and Trinidad Scorpion are the main driving force for heat and taste, with the other ingredients playing secondary roles in forming the flavour profile. It’s one of the hottest sauces we carry and it’s a personal favourite of mine. For an extract-free hot sauce, it’s deadly hot and unless you really want to feel the burn, should only be used a few drops at a time, even for experienced chile heads like myself! I absolutely love this sauce and I’m sure you will too, if you can (mostly) handle the heat of course! Also note that “7 Pot” and “7 Pod” are interchangeable ways to name the pepper. If you’re curious to know more about Heartbreaking Dawns, go have a look at all their fantastic gourmet products that we offer here at Chilly Chiles! You won’t regret it!

The 7 Pot Primo peppers have a delicious fruity/floral flavour and pack a SERIOUS punch. They’re high up on the list of the hottest peppers on the planet. Trinidad Scorpion peppers, with their tender fruitiness and slow-building heat, add an almost equally strong kick to complement the Primos. The main flavour of this product really does come from these two chile peppers. They are also known in the chile head community as some of the tastiest super hot peppers ever! Apple cider vinegar is used instead of the classic distilled white vinegar, and with good reason! This is my favourite type of vinegar to have in hot sauces not only because it has various health benefits but because it has a balanced tang and pungency that, I have found over the years, best complements hot peppers. Water is there to ensure that no ingredient stands out too much. It’s not necessarily there to “water down” the sauce as much as to ensure it is not too vinegary or too sweet. Lime juice adds a touch of citrus flavour, complementing the vinegar and fresh peppers. The garlic adds a subtle zing that is lightly noticeable. I never get tired of garlic in hot sauces. It’s ever-present in all kinds of spicy products, and I feel that it always serves an important purpose! Hot peppers and garlic go together, making for a more fresh, palatable flavour profile. Agave syrup adds a tad of sweetness to complement the taste of the peppers and vinegar. I can’t say that this sweetness brings down the scorching heat in any way though! The salt serves its purpose as it always does by ensuring that the sauce has just the right amount of seasoning. The coriander, as the last ingredient, is not very present in the sauce as far as I could tell.

In terms of heat, I would easily give this one a 9 out of 10. As stated in a post I wrote a long while ago, I reserve a 10 out of 10 rating for extract-based sauces that are almost as hot as pepper spray (not enjoyable). Due to the nature of this product then, I would only recommend it to passionate chile heads and anyone who is used to at least the heat of ghost pepper based hot sauces and wants to kick it up a notch. If you’re very comfortable with using even habanero-based hot sauces in your everyday cooking, then by all means give Reapercussion a shot! Just don’t say I didn’t warn you! In all honesty though this one not only has an intense burn, but also an exceptional flavour. I can guarantee that almost any chile head who appreciates the heat and flavour of the ghost, scorpion, or reaper pepper will love this product.

Use this sauce very modestly, adding a couple of drops or even a teaspoon (if you dare) in your marinades, wing sauces, dips, salsas, noodles, rice dishes, and more. Add a few drops to your mayo, hummus, sour cream dips, ranch dressing, and even ketchup for a sweet and scorching heat! Try a drop or two on the side of your plate, no matter what you’re eating, and see how its flavour can blend with those on your plate! Be careful though, it’s rather liquid. It’s happened to me in the past when I really wanted a couple of drops, tilted the bottle too quickly and ended up with a good tablespoon. Let’s just say “tears of joy” later emerged.

If you want to experience one of the hottest natural-heat hot sauces we offer here at Chilly Chiles, come by one of our store locations and give Heartbreaking Dawns Reapercussion 7 Pod Primo Hot Sauce a try!

As always, Keep it spicy!
