Fat Cat Surprisingly Mild Guajillo Ghost Hot Sauce

November 06, 2019

Fat Cat Surprisingly Mild Guajillo Ghost Hot Sauce is exactly that: surprisingly mild! At the same time, it has a ton of savoury flavour which, at least in my experience with the product, is wildly addictive. I had finished my bottle in a matter of days. That’s how much I enjoyed it! If you like the flavours of the southwest and don’t mind just a slight kick of heat, then I highly recommend this one to you! If you want to learn more about Fat Cat Foods and some of the other products of theirs which we offer here at Chilly Chiles, be sure to check out my reviews of Strawberry Serrano Hot Sauce and Chairman Meow’s Revenge! Both delicious, yet very different products!

It’s a robust sauce with a smoky, tangy, and savoury flavour profile. What sticks out the most to me are the smoky Guajillo peppers and the cumin. It really is a marriage made in heaven! Water gives the sauce a more liquid consistency and balances out the acidity and salinity while the vinegar acts as the classic preservative, adding a moderate tang. Guajillo peppers are the dried form of the Mirasol chile and they are among the most popular chile varieties in Mexican cuisine. They have a rich, fruity, and smoky flavour. They really are delicious! Sea salt does its job of seasoning the sauce while the cumin also makes a big impact with its spicy, earthy, and slightly nutty taste. Ghost peppers are very much in the background in terms of the heat and flavour they contribute. That’s essentially why this sauce has this name, there’s just a tiny hint of Ghost peppers! I did detect a little boost of heat in this sauce from these superhot chiles, but it was rather faint. The oregano is also noticeable upon tasting, though not quite as much as the cumin. In combination though they work amazingly together, given oregano’s earthy and pungent flavour.

In terms of heat, I would give this one a 2 out of 10. Even with the added Ghost pepper, this sauce is rather mild, hence the name. It is indeed surprisingly mild given that whenever we see the word “Ghost” on a hot sauce bottle, we tend to expect a scorcher! I would say anyone would be able to enjoy this product. If you’re a fan of Mexican-style hot sauces and love a good smoky flavour, then this one is a MUST-TRY!

Add some of this sauce to your favourite Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes like chili, tacos, fajitas, burritos, nachos, chimichangas, enchiladas, huevos rancheros, tamales, and more! It’s also delicious on any kind of breakfast too. I’ve enjoyed it with scrambled or fried eggs, omelets, avocado toast, baked beans, and breakfast sandwiches. It’s a great table sauce and given the milder heat and savoury flavours it offers, you can be adventurous and try it on pretty much anything you usually enjoy with hot sauce!

No need to be afraid of this one! Come by one of our store locations and give Fat Cat Surprisingly Mild Guajillo Ghost Hot Sauce a try!

As always, Keep it picante!

Bee Sting Mango Passion Hot Sauce

February 19, 2020

When you think of a bee sting, you probably think of excruciating pain and the need for medical attention. Well get that thought out of your mind for this sauce as it will definitely not sting you much at all! It will, however, provide you with some fresh tropical flavours.

CaJohns Hydra Hot Sauce

February 11, 2020

CaJohns Hydra Hot Sauce is definitely a force to be reckoned with! Made with 7-Pot Primo chilies, it’s got a fresh heat that you’d expect to get from this brand. Hydra is in fact a very pepper-forward sauce, meaning that much of the flavour comes from the main pepper itself.

Heartbreaking Dawns Cauterizer

The flavour profile of Cauterizer is fruity, tangy, sweet, and savoury. Trinidad Scorpion peppers bring a solid, blazing heat and fruity flavour, with the cider vinegar preserving the sauce while adding some sour notes. Apricot preserves, blueberries, and honey...

Dawson Original Hot Sauce

Smells good. Tastes good. Hot as hell. But manageable.

The toe was damn hot!!!

The toe of satan is friggin so hot. It's one thing to eat something hot and swallow it. The toe is 9 million scolville but you are sucking on it. Need I say more!!! Picture was for fun but that was about 20 mins after!!

Perfect if you like strong vinegar-y sauces.

So my partner loves this sauce, but she loves kimchi and all things vinegar/acid-y. So I'm giving this 4 stars based on her opinion.

The normal Hellfire Detroit is one of my favorite sauces of all time for reference; however Bourbon Habanero Ghost is too tart/acidy for my taste, its also considerably hotter (which is welcome for some but a difference to note), I'd say 40% hotter than normal hellfire.

Good flavour with lingering heat

This is a pretty darn hot sauce, but the underlying flavour is still noticeable. This is a good one to have in your collection for those liking a strong kick now and then.

So good!

Bought this set as a gift for my brother who collects hot sauce and he liked it a lot. The Chicago one works well with guacamole! While the Adobo loco packs a punch. 10/10 would purchase and try other stuff again! Also the packaging is great and it arrived in perfect condition.
