Cajohn’s Serrano Lime Hot Sauce is full of robust flavour and has a subtle, yet noticeable kick. This is a southwestern-style sauce intended to bring a whole lot of natural, fresh flavours to anything you’re eating! This sauce has an earthy, smoky flavour from the chile-lime seasoning present in the sauce. The seasoning includes lime zest and three kinds of chiles all with different flavours which complement each other. There is the crisp flavour of the Serrano chile, which is a notch hotter than the classic Jalapeno, the mild and slightly sweet and smoky Ancho chile, which is the dried form of the ripe red Poblano pepper, as well as the New-Mex Chile which has a medium heat with a smoky earthiness. The flavours from these chiles combine to make for an overall smoky flavour with a touch of sweetness. The apple cider vinegar is used in this sauce as a great substitute for regular vinegar because not only is it better for your health, but it also adds a nice subtle tang that complements the other flavours present.
The full-bodied flavour of roasted garlic and subtle hint of cumin also work their magic in this sauce. The garlic zing, with the strong roasted flavour, marries perfectly with the natural smokiness and crispness of the chiles. The cumin flavour is the finishing touch on what is an all-around fragrant and fresh-tasting hot sauce. With regards to heat, I would give this sauce a 4 out of 10. This ranks it as a medium heat sauce which can be used quite liberally on almost anything you’re cooking!
This sauce adds a nice little kick and a whole lot of flavour wherever you put it. I love incorporating this sauce in Mexican and Southwestern dishes. It’s perfect on roasted chicken, sautéed shrimp, fish, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, salads, and even in soups! I’ve had many of my friends try this sauce and they have all been quite surprised at just how unique and versatile the flavour profile is. This sauce is definitely worth checking out!
