West African VooDoo Juice Hot Sauce

December 23, 2018

This is, I believe, one of the very few great-tasting pepper extract-based hot sauces on the market today. The flavour profile is one which I have not been able to find in any other sauce I’ve ever tried. The sweet, dark, spiced, and fruity taste and blistering heat makes for a very unique product. Its intense heat is equally matched with its intense flavour. If you’re a hardcore chile head like myself and are open to trying an extract-based product, you absolutely need to give this one a try! What’s more, this sauce comes with a voodoo doll and pins! Makes for a great gift!

Red Savina Habanero mash brings all of the fresh heat. The Red Savina is the hottest variety of the habanero pepper and was actually the world’s hottest pepper between 1994 and 2006 until Guinness World Records declared the ghost pepper to be the hottest in early 2007.  It has a sweet and fruity heat which pairs very well with the fruits and citrus in the mix. Carrots and onions add some sweetness while the white vinegar not only helps to preserve all the ingredients, but also adds a light tang that does not overpower anything in the sauce. The brown sugar, papaya juice, pineapple juice, and banana give this sauce its distinctive tropical fruitiness and sweetness. These elements make this sauce highly enjoyable…before the intense burn sets in of course! The tartness and distinctive flavours of these fruits are very noticeable upon tasting, greatly complementing the piquant savour of the Red Savina. Brown rum adds a very interesting quality to this product. Rum is quite uncommon in hot sauces, and I love it. The dark, oaky, and sweet taste of this aged rum truly brings everything together. It’s a perfect marriage with all the other ingredients and completes the exotic, tropical vibe that Captain Thom’s was going for. Lime juice contributes to the flavour profile by providing a light citrusy tang, adding another layer of complexity to this tropical, fruity, sweet, and boozy hot sauce! Pepper extract adds a slow-building heat that sets in once you’ve enjoyed the delicious taste of the VooDoo Juice. The sometimes metallic-tasting extract, in this case, does not carry any distinctive flavour. This is a win in my books, as almost all extracts on the market, in my opinion, really don’t taste very good at all. The salt and spices ensure that the product is well-seasoned, adding another level of mystery as to what other flavours could have been added to make this such an amazing sauce.

In terms of heat I would give this one a solid 9 out of 10. If it weren’t for the extract, I would probably give it a 7. The extract is simply killer! I would definitely not recommend it for beginners and I even hesitate to recommend it to those who are just getting into habanero hot sauces. It has such a strong heat that, if you go overboard with how much you put on your meal, it could end in endorphin-filled regrets! It has a heat that grows and then lingers for a while. All I’ve gotta say is… WATCH OUT or you’ll end up like my friend Chase (see below).

a man brushing his teeth   Enjoy it, in very small quantities in all kinds of dishes. Add a couple of drops in your stews, chilis, rice and beans, salsas, and any of your favourite Caribbean, African, or Mexican dishes! I’ve added it to my pizza, burgers, sandwiches, jerk chicken, ramen, and more! Try adding a little to hummus, sour cream, or mayo for a fiery-sweet dip! I recommend you also add some to your favourite pork or beef marinades because of its sweetness and strong flavour. It has the kind of flavor profile that fits perfectly with any kind of BBQ dishes! When it comes to the VooDoo Juice, a little goes a very long way!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Come by one of our store locations and give West African VooDoo Juice Hot Sauce a try…if you dare!                                                                                                                                                                                             As always, Stay on the spicy side of life!

When you think of a bee sting, you probably think of excruciating pain and the need for medical attention. Well get that thought out of your mind for this sauce as it will definitely not sting you much at all! It will, however, provide you with some fresh tropical flavours.

CaJohns Hydra Hot Sauce

February 11, 2020

CaJohns Hydra Hot Sauce is definitely a force to be reckoned with! Made with 7-Pot Primo chilies, it’s got a fresh heat that you’d expect to get from this brand. Hydra is in fact a very pepper-forward sauce, meaning that much of the flavour comes from the main pepper itself.

Dawson Original Hot Sauce

Smells good. Tastes good. Hot as hell. But manageable.

The toe was damn hot!!!

The toe of satan is friggin so hot. It's one thing to eat something hot and swallow it. The toe is 9 million scolville but you are sucking on it. Need I say more!!! Picture was for fun but that was about 20 mins after!!

Perfect if you like strong vinegar-y sauces.

So my partner loves this sauce, but she loves kimchi and all things vinegar/acid-y. So I'm giving this 4 stars based on her opinion.

The normal Hellfire Detroit is one of my favorite sauces of all time for reference; however Bourbon Habanero Ghost is too tart/acidy for my taste, its also considerably hotter (which is welcome for some but a difference to note), I'd say 40% hotter than normal hellfire.

Good flavour with lingering heat

This is a pretty darn hot sauce, but the underlying flavour is still noticeable. This is a good one to have in your collection for those liking a strong kick now and then.

So good!

Bought this set as a gift for my brother who collects hot sauce and he liked it a lot. The Chicago one works well with guacamole! While the Adobo loco packs a punch. 10/10 would purchase and try other stuff again! Also the packaging is great and it arrived in perfect condition.
