Pain is Good Harissa Hot Sauce

July 14, 2018

a close up of food   Pain is Good Harissa Hot Sauce by Original Juan Specialty Foods Inc. is unlike any other harissa sauce on the market today. Harissa has its origins in Tunisia and traditionally includes a sundried or fresh pepper paste, garlic, herbs, spices, and vegetable or olive oil. This is a twist on the original recipe because it’s a hot sauce rather than a paste. This sauce builds on the classic ingredients with a very mild, enjoyable heat and fresh, bold, savouriness.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Original Juan has quite a diverse lineup of products including salsas, barbecue sauces, bloody mary mixes, hot sauces, and wing sauces. Their brands include Pain Is Good, Da’ Bomb, and Longhorn, among others. If you want to learn more about Original Juan and their products that we offer here at Chilly Chiles, check out my review of Pain is Good Fire Roasted Green Srirach-AH Hot Sauce! If you’re a fan of sriracha, it’s a must-read!

The red jalapeno peppers and birds eye chile powder provide the mild heat in this sauce while the distilled vinegar and lemon juice concentrate add a noticeable tang. The tomato paste adds a sweetness and acidic quality which complements the prominent zing of fresh garlic. The onion powder and garlic powder reinforce a bold taste. The cilantro and mint add an herby quality to this sauce while the spices, though a mystery, do complete this sauce by adding a layer of exotic flavours. Finally, the extra virgin olive oil brings everything together with its subtle fruity and pungent notes.

In terms of heat I would give this sauce a 1 out of 10. It’s at such a low heat level that I would have no trouble recommending it to pretty much everyone! If you’re intrigued by the ingredient/flavour combinations in this sauce then you should definitely give it a try! There is much to appreciate in it because of its very savoury quality brought forth with the use of fresh ingredients.

You can enjoy this sauce on all kinds of different food. I’ve added when sautéing shrimp, onions, scallops, mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies. It works great as a marinade for chicken, beef, and pork! Drizzle Harissa Hot Sauce over couscous, pizza, eggs, nachos, and even in sandwiches. Mix it in with mayo, yoghurt, or hummus for an awesome fresh-tasting zesty dip! The flavour profile of this sauce makes it so that it blends very well with just about anything that can use an herby, spicy tang!

As always, Keep it spicy!

Secret Aardvark Drunken Jerk Marinade

May 13, 2019

The Drunken Jerk Marinade is savoury, intense, spiced, and salty. This intensity is mainly due to the fact that its main use is that of a marinade, and thus has a high concentration of flavour. Therefore, it’s not necessarily the kind of sauce you would douse on any dish.

Tabanero Hot Sauce

April 30, 2019

Part of the reason for this is because of its amazingly versatile, fresh flavour. It’s also a big hit, I believe, because it is rather mild for a habanero-based sauce. This makes it an enjoyable product for pretty much anyone who at least enjoys lower heat-level hot sauces!

Slightly warm

No doubt about it this stuff is hot which is surprising, considering I eat the last dab redux on a daily basis. Same with hellfire fear this, I feel that da bomb final answer is way hotter than both of those. But it tastes disgusting.

Los Calientes

It's the most pleasureful pain I've ever experienced. And I'll do it over and over.

Nice Salsa

Don't buy any, save it all for me!

Still the best

I was there at the old Red Fox liars table when you first introduced this stuff , I am 74 now and still think it is the best in North America, had a feed tonight for supper with my Keith's and wings thanks for the best sauce around and thanks for all the great memories at the Fox

Taste is good, but no heat

Great flavor but I'd rate the heat more like a 2/10
