Pain is Good Gochujang Hot Sauce

May 07, 2019

This Korean-inspired hot sauce by Spicin’ Foods is a unique product that is also highly addictive! Gochujang is a classic element of Korean cuisine. It is typically served alongside a variety of dishes such as ramen, tempura shrimp or veggies, fried chicken, and more.  The rich, savoury and sweet flavour of this sauce comes with a mild heat that should be tolerable for most. If you want to learn more about this amazing brand and some of the other products from their line that we offer here at Chilly Chiles, check out my other reviews of Pain is Good Fire Roasted Green Srirach-AH Hot Sauce and Pain is Good Harissa Hot Sauce!

This one is made with simple, purposeful ingredients. No chemical additives or bizarre stuff! Water keeps the sauce’s consistency, flavour balance, and acidity in check while the cane sugar adds a decent level of sweetness. It’s a sweet sauce which, I find, makes it very enjoyable on all kinds of dishes that could use a sweet kick. Fermented soybeans, which comprise of water, soybeans, rice, salt, and alcohol, bring an earthy flavour. The rice vinegar, with its mild and sweet taste, preserves the sauce while also complementing the soybeans. Dried red chile peppers and Gochugaru chile powder bring the heat. Gochugaru peppers are Korean peppers which have a complex flavor profile. They are mildly hot but also have sweet, and slightly smoky notes. You can imagine now why this chile was a great pick considering the other flavours present. Garlic powder completes the sauce. What would an Asian-inspired sauce be without garlic? There’s just enough that this Gochujang has the zingy quality many of us love!

With regards to heat, I’d give this one a 2 out of 10. It’s a rather mild sauce in which its unique, satisfying flavour is its main strength. There’s a very light lingering heat that you will notice upon tasting, but nothing that would burn you much at all. Everyone can enjoy this one, as long as you’re not allergic to soy of course and are intrigued by the sauce’s flavour profile. If you’re a fan of Korean food, or any Asian food for that matter, this one is a MUST TRY for you! This is among my favourite Asian-inspired hot sauces available at Chilly Chiles!

Enjoy this sauce with not only Korean dishes such as bibimbap, but also in stews, salads, soups, and marinated meat or seafood dishes. I’ve enjoyed it very much with eggs, sandwiches, fried rice, dumplings, spring rolls, various noodle dishes, and more. Go wild with it. It’s got very little heat so don’t worry about putting lots of it on your plate! I’m warning you though, once you finish the bottle you’re going to be coming back for more, and more!

Come by one of our store locations and give Pain is Good Gochujang Hot Sauce a try!

As always, Stay on the spicy side of life!

Fat Cat Surprisingly Mild Guajillo Ghost Hot Sauce

November 06, 2019

It’s a robust sauce with a smoky, tangy, and savoury flavour profile. What sticks out the most to me are the smoky Guajillo peppers and the cumin. It really is a marriage made in heaven! Water gives the sauce a more liquid consistency and balances out the acidity and salinity while...

Hellfire Blueberry Hell Hot Sauce

October 23, 2019

This is one of my all-time favourites. It’s most probably my favourite super-hot fruit-based hot sauce I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. When we usually hear “fruit-based hot sauce” we assume that makes its possible uses rather limited. That is not the case with Blueberry Hell, as I will discuss in more depth further down.

Brutal, very hot, taste was really bad

This was just stinking hot, tastes hotter than a lot of other sauces but the heat over powers you and it is not a great taste, was good for a hot wing challenge but I would use as recommended on the bottle to just add heat to something like soup or chili if you want some extreme heat, even then there are much better choices!

Not as crazy as I was expecting but many of my friends can barely handle it :)

It really burns, the heat kicks in and keeps going up when you breathe :)

I cried... I had hiccups..... but I was expecting it to be kicking my ass more.

No ring of fire :)

Tasty

Hot, but not just for hot's sake. Really good flavour.
