Karma Sauce Funken Hot Hot Sauce

November 01, 2018

Karma Sauce Funken Hot Hot sauce is downright TASTY! This is quite a unique product, as there are very few sauces on the market that use the brown chile varieties. These ones are generally slightly hotter than the red varieties and have a more rich and darker quality to them. Funken Hot is among my favourite new products in the category of sweet-hot sauces. It has a certain level of complexity of flavour that I always appreciate and enjoy. It’s got a very pleasing taste profile in which the chiles take the spotlight and if you enjoy a bit of sweetness and are curious about trying these pepper varieties in a sauce, this may very well be the perfect one for you!

The ingredients in this sauce simply, to me, create a symphony of flavours! The hot brown peppers including 7 Pot Brown and Chocolate Habaneros are the peppers that bring all the heat. They fulfill their spicy role in it by providing a uniquely rich and smoky flavour to the sauce. Organic sugar adds a good amount of sweetness, enough so that I would call this a sweet-heat kind of product.  Apple cider vinegar, in my opinion, is one of the healthiest and best-tasting types of vinegar to have in a hot sauce. It almost never overpowers the other ingredients and doesn’t give this sauce too much of a vinegary quality to it. The balance is just right! Fresh lime juice makes for a slightly citrusy quality, one that always marries well with hot peppers and other fresh ingredients. Salt ensures that the sauce has just the right amount of saltiness. It’s one of those ingredients we almost never pay attention to but having it in the ingredients can do a lot. Garlic, one of my favourite ingredients in a hot sauce, adds a subtle zing to complement the rather pronounced taste of the chiles. Spices are noticeably present in the mix; which ones they are however I am not sure. I have a certain inclination though that they may be Caribbean spices, possibly all-spice. Xanthan gum acts as a thickening agent, making for a thicker consistency.

In terms of heat I would give this one a solid 7 out of 10. It’s got quite a kick for a sauce that, upon tasting, is rather sweet. It’s got the kind of heat that, for me, I would need a decent amount on my plate to really get a good burn. For many hot sauce lovers out there, this will be an enjoyable burn that should be within your tolerance range. I wouldn’t recommend this one to those who only enjoy mild-medium sauces or are just starting to get into these kinds of products. I would however recommend it to anyone who enjoys sauces at the habanero heat level or higher. This sweet-heat may deceive you! What’s fun about making my friends try out this sauce is that each time they take a good amount on a chip or on a slice of pizza, they immediately get the sweetness, so they don’t think too much of the heat. This heat does build however… so watch out!

Enjoy Funken Hot as a dip or part of a marinade for your favourite beef, chicken, or pork dishes! I’ve drizzled this sauce on my pizza, in burgers, roasted potatoes, mac n’ cheese, ribs, pork chops, grilled chicken, fried rice, and more! I also put a modest amount in my ham, chicken, turkey or roast beef sandwiches! Let’s just say it helps wake me up during my lunch break at work! It goes without saying that this sauce is fantastic when mixed with mayo, making a sweet and zesty dip for your veggies, fries, and more! This sweet and complex-flavoured hot sauce has got quite the versatility. Just keep in mind it’s got a pretty decent kick!

Not hot, but very flavourful

I first discovered this product in your shop when it was located on Sussex Drive in the market area and have enjoyed it ever since. It's not a spicy product, but it has an excellent flavour and is a great accompaniment to all sorts of meats - beef, pork, and chicken - particularly when grilled on a gas or charcoal BBQ. It seems to come and go on the shelves, but I hope to see it stocked more regularly.

The best hot sauce!

We travel to Belize often but when we carry-on we can’t bring back the hot sauce. We use it on everything and love the variety they produce.

Thankful that we can order online and get super fast delivery!

I love this sauce

good taste and easily pourable on any surface. I will definitely buy again.

Definitely the hottest

I can't really speak for the flavour as the heat obliterated any there might have been, but these were hands down the hottest noodles (and hottest thing in general) that I've ever had. If you're looking for a solid spicy food challenge, buy this before it's sold out!

Product exceeded expectations.

Thank you so much for having the BEST Selection anywhere.
